Two more swine flu deaths in Hyderabad, AP toll rises to 20

Hyderabad, September 20: With two more swine flu deaths reported here today, the toll in the viral infection has reached to 20 in Andhra Pradesh.

The two deaths included a patient Lakshmi, who died at Osmania Hospital, and 42-year-old Satyanaryana from Malkajgiri who died at AP Chest Hospital. Both were tested positive for swine flu.

The hospital has 14 patients of swine flu, out of which nine are H1N1 positive cases and five are suspects awaiting their virology reports, Superintendent of AP Chest Hospital Dr S V Prasad said, adding of these, nine cases, one is in critical condition .

Of the five suspected cases, one is on ventilator, he said.

Meanwhile, District Health and Medical Officer (DHMO) Ch Jayakumari said as many as 785 patients have been screened and 16 samples were sent for testing today. In all, six patients are on ventilators, she added.

The bed occupancy in all the nodal as well as main hospitals treating swine flu cases is 51. She said the Fair Price Shops Association has come forward to print posters to create awareness among people coming to their stores about swine flu.

NGOs are also carrying out awareness campaign on the epidemic, she added.
