Two more cases of Congo fever detected in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, February 06:Two relatives of an intern doctor who had died of Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) have tested positive for the tick borne virus, health officials said here.

“A girl and a male relative of an intern doctor Shabbir Ali Umatiya (25) who died of CCHF (congo fever) on January 31 have tested positive for the tick borne virus,” Additional Director Health Paresh Dave said.

The blood samples of the duo were sent for testing to National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, and reports received today have shown them positive for the virus, he said.

“The kin of the deceased were admitted in isolation ward of the Civil Hospital here four days ago and their condition is stable,” Dave said without revealing their names.

“The duo reside at a village near Kesimpa in Mehsana district,” health officials said.
