Two minors get stripped, paraded for ‘stealing’ from sweet shop

Ulhasnagar: Two minor boys aged 8 and 9 were stripped and paraded with garlands of slippers for allegedly stealing snacks from a sweet shop on Sunday, police have said.

The shop owner, Mehmood Pathan (69) along with his two sons Irfan (26) and Salim (22), were arrested after the incident took place on Saturday night in Prem Nagar area of Ulhasnagar township, according to a news report by HT.

According to Police, the two children who belong to different families went to the neighbourhood sweets shop, where they picked up a packet of ‘chakli’ (a snack) without the owner’s permission and ate it, which made Mehmood angry.

Mehmood and his two sons held the children and chopped off their hair. Along with this they allegedly stripped them, making the children wear garlands of slippers paraded them on the street as punishment.

The parents of the duo lodged a complaint with the Hill Line police after their children were humiliated in this way.

The police informed, based on the complaint, Mehmood and his sons Irfan (26) and Salim (22) were arrested around midnight.

The trio was booked under IPC Sections 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour the person), 500 (defamation) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and also under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, they added.
