Two migrant workers killed in Manipur

Imphal, Dec 17: Two migrant workers were killed by unidentified gunmen in India’s restive northeastern state of Manipur in the second such incident in the past two days, officials said today.

A police spokesperson said bullet riddled bodies of the two daily wage earners were recovered from the Chingmaerong area on the outskirts of the capital Imphal early today.

“Probably the incident took place before dawn with the two non-local workers shot dead with automatic weapons,” the official said.

Police are yet to identify the two bodies, but claimed both were migrant workers, probably from West Bengal or Bihar.

On Tuesday, a daily wage earner was killed on the outskirts of Imphal under similar circumstances.

At least 25 migrant workers have been killed in Manipur so far this year, although no militant group has owned up to the killings.

Earlier, the state government had asked all migrant workers not to work outside the Imphal municipal area.
