Two men feared drowned, another run over down by train

Jorhat: Two men were feared to have drowned in the Brahmaputra river and another knocked down by a train in Assam’s Jorhat district today, police said.

The two men were reported to have drowned when they went to take bath in the river near Kokilamukh Shanti Ashram, Jorhat SP Prasanta Bhuyan said.

They were identified as Debojit Dutta (30) who hails from Napamua Gaon and Sanjib Neog (29) from Patia Gaon, Bhuyan said adding both of them were among a 10-member picnic party.

The police, CRPF, SDRF have been pressed into service to find out what happened to the youths, Bhuyan said.

Tomorrow morning a team of the National Disaster Management Force will also be pressed, he said.

In another incident, the Jorhat-Tinsukia passenger train ran over a man opposite to Tocklai Tea Research Institute in the evening when the victim was trying to cross an unmanned gate in Jorhat.

He has been identified as Jamal Ansari (30), the railway police said.
