Baripada (Orissa), December 11: Two Maoists, involved in an attack on a former JMM MP on October 13, were arrested here today, police said.
The arrested rebels, identified as Lasa Tudu (23) and Jasai Soren (18), hail from Patharneta village in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district, Mayurbhanj SP Dayal Gangwar told reporters.
Police also recovered 10 AK-47 bullets from their possession, he said, adding that the bullets were looted by the ultras from security men during the bid on the former legislator’s life.
Three security personnel were killed in the attack on former JMM MP Sudam Marandi at Bandap village in Mayurbhanj district on October 13. However, Marandi had escaped unhurt.
Gangwar said they have information that the Maoists are planning to extend their network to neighbouring Balasore district, where the missile testing centre is located.
