Two lakh houses for poor in Hyd: CM Directs officials to acquire 2000 acres

Stating that providing shelter to the poor is the responsibility of the government, Chief Minister K Chandrsekhar Rao today directed the officials concerned to acquire land for providing housing facility to them. He held a high level review meeting for four hours at Camp Office along with officials and vowed to construct houses for the poor.

The chief minister directed GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar to acquire 2000 acres of land in Hyderabad to provide housing facility for the two lakh poor people in the first phase. Take possession of the land after acquiring it in any vacant lands in Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills or any other posh areas which is left unused or undeveloped, KCR said. “My Government’s ultimate aim is to see that there should be no single family in the city sans permanent shelter”, the chief minister stated. As per recent house hold survey as many as 2 lakhs of poor people are living in twin cities without any housing facility.

When the rich are getting thousands of acres for luxuries, entertainment and time pass, universities getting similar land mass, schools getting hundreds of acres while industries corporate and industries and government offices are getting tens of acres, why not we give just 2000 acres for the poor to get their homes, he asserted. The officials should immediately focus in that direction to acquire land and begin the works for construction, he directed. Expressing concern on the lack of shelter, which is a curse that is known to the people who are facing the problem, he said that it is the social responsibility of his government to provide them two bedroom flats to be constructed in apartment module. The housing for poor will be taken up on par with that of Water Grid to provide safe water to the people in a phased manner.

He also warned that the officials should take a step ahead and every care to avoid middlemen and those known for irregularities in the big housing scheme for the poor. The chief minister asked the officials to find out the eligible for the scheme in coordination with intelligence wing. KCR also asked Somesh Kumar to take the responsibility of construction of the housing for poor, a CMO release said. (NSS)
