Hyderabad: The TRS government would fulfill its commitment of providing two-bed room houses to the poor in the State and accordingly would construct two lakh houses in 2016-17.
Stating this in his annual budget presented in the State Assembly today, Finance Minister Etela Rajender said one lakh houses would be constructed in the areas covered under GHMC and another one lakh in other parts of the State. The entire cost of two lakh houses would be met through extra-budgetary resources from HUDCO and other financial institutions. Selection of beneficiaries would be done in a very transparent manner without any political or bureaucratic interference, he added.
The Finance Minister said the Telangana Government, moved by the plight of the poor people living in shabby houses and to ensure dignity to them, had taken the path-breaking decision of providing two bed room houses, which comprise two bed rooms, a hall, a kitchen and two toilets to all eligible families in a phased manner without any beneficiary contribution.
In accordance with this policy, the Finance Minister said the State government has already accorded administrative sanction last year for construction of 60,000 houses in the State, of which 36,000 houses would be in rural areas and 24,000 in urban areas. Already 377 two bed-room flats have been constructed at IDH colony at Bhoiguda in Secunderabad in a record time. Encouraged by the overwhelming support and demand for the scheme, the State government has now decided to construct two lakh two-bedroom houses, he added. (NSS)
