Two killed over ‘political rivalry’; 3 held

Ghaziabad: Three persons have been arrested here for allegedly killing two men and injuring three others with the police saying it was a fallout of a political rivalry.

SSP H N Singh said the incident took place last night when BJP worker Yogendra Yadav and his cousin, Jagni, along with three others, were returning home and some youths reportedly from the BSP allegedly opened fire on them.

Yadav and Jagni died on the spot, he said.

The accused and the victims are from the same village- Shahpur Bamheta.

Singh said the three injured are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

Preliminary investigation suggests that it was a fallout of a political rivalry ahead of the upcoming civic body elections.

In 2012, Yogendra s father Vedpal had contested the election for the post of councillor and he was intending to contest again which his rivals did not like.

Singh said this rivalry was the root cause behind the incident.

An FIR has been lodged by a family member of Yadav against eight persons at the Kavi nagar police station.

To avoid any escalation, the police and the PAC have been deployed in the village and outside the hospital where the injured are being treated, the SSP said.
