Sanaa, November 13: Two people have been killed in separate clashes between revolutionaries and forces loyal to Yemen’s Ali Abdullah Saleh, Press TV reports.
On Saturday, regime forces shot dead a defected soldier in the capital Sana’a as he was guarding protesters in the city’s flashpoint Change Square.
Witnesses said two huge explosions were heard in the area following the shooting.
In a separate incident, a woman lost her life after a mortar shell hit her house in the restive Arhab district, a few kilometers northeast of Sana’a.
The deaths bring the number of people killed during clashes over the last day to 20.
On Saturday, thousands of people took to the streets, calling for the ouster of Saleh, demanding that he and his officials stand trial over the killing of protesters.
Hundreds of people have been killed in the regime’s crackdown on peaceful protests since the eruption of a popular uprising in late January.
The protesters have been calling for an end to widespread poverty and corruption in the country, demanding an immediate resignation of Saleh, who has been ruling the country over the past three decades.
The embattled ruler’s refusal to resign has triggered a political impasse in the impoverished Arab nation.
