Two killed in explosion in ordnance factory

Pune: Two persons were today killed in an explosion at the ordnance factory in Khadki in Pune while they were shifting small arms and ammunition.

Defence sources said the blast occurred at around 9.30 am when “rejected ammunition” was being shifted.

The deceased, identified as Ashok Dubal (48) and Yash Maria Rock (50), were workers of the ordnance factory.

This is the second such incident in less than four months. In March, nearly 20 people were injured in an explosion in the Ordnance Factory Khamaria (OFK) in Jabalpur.

Sources said there was no other injury or damage to any structure reported.

In May last year, 19 people, including two army officers, were killed in a fire in the force’s ammunition depot in Pulgoan in Maharashtra.
