New Delhi, May 04: An argument over bursting crackers at a wedding claimed the lives of a youth and a middle- aged man in the Kotwali area of north Delhi late on Sunday.
Twenty- three- year old Altamash Qureshi, a resident of Gokulpuri, was stabbed to death while Syed Abdullah ( 50), a resident of Ajmeri Gate, died after he was beaten up by people from the bridegroom’s side.
The incident took place around 11 pm near Kaccha Bagh Community Hall. Police claimed that Abdullah was reportedly beaten up by youths from the bridegroom’s side when he tried to stop them from bursting crackers during the marriage procession.
“ Altamash had lit a cracker which had accidentally injured a person from the bride’s side.
Following this an argument broke out between the two parties which turned ugly. Abdullah, who had tried to intervene, was thrashed by the groom’s side and sustained severe injuries. His sons Salim and Faizan immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” a police officer said.
The matter was initially sorted out but a fight broke out again after the bride’s family heard about Abdullah’s death.
“ During the clash, Altamash was stabbed by Salim’s friend Salman.
Altamash was taken to the LNJP hospital where he was declared brought dead,” the officer said.
A case has been registered at the Kotwali police station.
