Two persons were killed and 15 others grievously injured in a road accident occurred on NH 16 near Autonagar under Pedakakani mandal of Guntur district in the early hours of Sunday.
According to the information, a lorry laden with cement bags rammed another stationary lorry near Autonagar on the Chilakaripeta-Vijayawada highway. Due to the impact of the collision, the step-in tyre of stationary lorry jettisoned. Meanwhile, a car coming from Bengaluru hit the jettisoned tyre and overturned thrice. At the same time, a lorry carrying 70 persons, was coming from Bhadrachalam to go to Prakasam district. On seeing the accident spot, the lorry driver stopped the lorry/ But another lorry speeding from behind hit the lorry carrying the persons. As a result, 15 persons were injured grievously. Car driver Shashi of Benguluru and cement lorry driver Balaraju of Kurnool died on the spot.
On receipt of the information, ASP Bhaskar Rao, DSP Ramakrishna, CI Sesha Rao rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the nearest hospital. (NSS)
