Two kids drown in well, mother hurt

Hyderabad, May 14: Two children died and their mother was seriously injured after they fell into an agricultural well under mysterious circumstances at Marpally in the neighbouring Ranga Reddy district on Thursday.

Police said locals found the woman and the bodies of the two children in the agricultural well in the morning.

The woman, Sulochana, is a resident of Kohir in Medak district. She was married to Shyam and the couple had a daughter, Sushmitha (4) and a one-and-half-year son, Sukumar.

On May 11, Sulochana had a quarrel with her husband and left home with the two children. “Sulochana claims that she went to Hyderabad initially and later to Marpally, eight km away from Kohir, where she worked as an agricultural worker earlier,” Marpally police subinspector Jithender Reddy said. Sulochana told police that she had consumed toddy and slept under the shade of a tree on Wednesday evening.

After sometime, Sushmitha, who was playing in the field, fell into a well near the field accidentally. Sulochana too jumped into the well with Sukumar in her arms, Jithender Reddy said. The two children drowned while Sulochana escaped with minor injuries. Police registered a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) and are investigating.
