Two injured in clash between two communities in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, August 05: Two persons were injured afterclashes broke out today between two communities in Ghatlodiaarea here today, police said.

The incident occurred near Prabhat Chowk, when people ofRabari and Patel communities clashed and damaged each others’properties over dispute regarding demolition of a temple, theysaid.

According to police, complaints have been filed by peopleof both communities alleging that the other had caused damageto their property. The situation is under control, they said.

Members of Rabari community came out on streets in thearea last night after Ahmedabad Municipal Corporationofficials came to demolish an illegal religious structure inPrabhat chowk, following Gujarat High Court orders.

Six shells of teargas were fired to disperse the mobwhich had become uncontrollable despite baton-charging, policesaid.

They said that the mob had also pelted stones at thehouse of one Jagdish Patel, who had filed the petition in theHigh Court against illegal structures.

Police said that tight security arrangements have beenmade to stall any act of violence by either of thecommunities.
