Two held for stealing recharge coupons

Hyderabad, June 11: Two persons, including a BSNL employee, were arrested by the Saifabad police on Thursday on the charge of stealing recharge coupons from their office at Adarshnagar a few months ago. The theft took place in 2009 when 26 CDs containing 1.3 lakh BSNL recharge coupons went missing from the sales-II department of the Telephone Bhavan at Adarshnagar. The theft, however, came to light after senior officials lodged a complaint with the police a few days ago.

The arrested were identified as P. Ramesh, a BSNL employee, and U. Vijay, a businessman. After stealing the CDs, they converted data into recharge cards in Mumbai and later sold them through wholesalers and retailers. They realised Rs.1.04 crore through sale of these cards,
