Two held for selling fake diamond for Rs 1.2 cr

Hyderabad: On a tip-off today, the sleuths of Commissioner’s Task Force Central Zone nabbed two fraudsters for selling a fake diamond to one Shaik Haji alias Ilias of Sanathnagar. The sleuths also seized a cash of Rs 1,15,20,000 along with duplicate diamond, Diamond selector II Testing machine, one table diamond selector light, one canon jewelry loupes 18mm lens, one diamond clipper, one crown gem cleaner and two cell phones from the possession of the accused.

According to the complainant Shaik Haji of Sanathnagar, the accused Mohd Ather Siddique alias Ather of Asifnagar and Mohd Salam Khan of BHEL Ramachandrapuram, both in Pearl and Ruby business, approached him saying they had an original 25-carat diamond piece worth Rs four crore. Trusting the duo, Shaik Haji purchased the alleged diamond by paying them Rs 1.2 crore on June 18. When the complainant got the “diamond” tested on January 25, he was shocked to learn that the “diamond” was fake and it was only a moissanite stone used as coat/shirt buttons.

Realized he was cheated by his earlier colleagues at Mohammed Khan Jewellers, Nampally, Mohd Haji lodged a complaint with the Abids police. The sleuths plunged into action and nabbed the accused duo. During interrogation, the accused told police that they bought one fake diamond on January 14 at Charminar Sunday market for Rs 3,500 to cheat the complainant. They called Mohd Haji to a lodge at Nampally and sold the “fake stone” for Rs 1.2 crore after a big bargain. (NSS)
