Two held for luring girls into trafficking

New Delhi: Two brothers have been arrested for allegedly running a human trafficking racket by luring innocent girls from rural areas of the northeast on the pretext of providing them jobs here, police said today.

The two accused, Nikhil alias Kamal Uchahi alias Sumeet Rana (34) and Rem Bahadur Uchahi alias Dipak (37) were arrested on March 4, said Praveer Ranjan, joint commissioner of police (Crime).

Nikhil was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest.

The accused persons are residents of Nepal, who, with the help of their associates, allegedly lured innocent girls from the rural areas of northeastern states on the pretext of arranging good jobs with handsome salary in Delhi.

Their associates targeted girls, who were living separately from their parents and were in need of sustaining themselves.

Two of their female associates have already been arrested.

A case was registered last year in August on the complaint of a northeastern girl, who had managed to run away and had approached police with the help of an NGO.

On the basis of a tip-off, a team was constituted and Nikhil was nabbed from near Anupam Restaurant, Munirka, the JCP said.

While police was overpowering Nikhil, Rem Bahadur ran away in a car.

In a chase till Badarpur Border and back to Munirka, Rem Bahadur was also arrested on March 4.
