New Delhi: Two men have been arrested on the charge of duping people of money on the pretext of helping them withdraw money from ATMs here, police said on Monday.
Police said accused Sumit Chaudhary, 26, and Narender Singh, 31, were arrested on Sunday from their houses in south Delhi’s Bijwasan after technical surveillance. A third member of the gang is still on the run.
Police said one of their victims, a young woman, had committed suicide on May 8 after being duped of Rs 29,000 by them a day earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Police Anto Alphonse said.
“During interrogation, the accused told police that they targeted ATMs with no CCTVs in the National Capital Region. The two gang members engaged prospective victims in conversation at the ATM to fraudulently withdraw money after they left while the third kept a vigil outside,” Alphonse said.
