Two teenage girls were detained and sent to the correction home after they snatched a mobile phone from a youth near Chennai Central railway, on Wednesday night in Chennai.
Two teenaged girls on a bike approached Thaniz, a 16-year-old, who is a resident of Periamet, when he was walking near the Vepery high road in the night at around 10 pm when and asked for his phone to make an emergency call.
The boy first hesitated but eventually gave it as the girls pretended to be lost, and were in search for their brother. He said the girls acted as if they were dialling the number and said there were network issues, they moved a little away from him, and in a while, they fled.
He immediately raised an alert and passersby followed the girls and managed to catch them. They both were handed over to the Periamet police, who sent them to the government correction home in Kellys.
