Hyderabad, July 30: Two employees of Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation (APSHC) who allegedly misappropriated Rs 2.29 crore meant for the State sponsored Indiramma Housing Scheme, were arrested by the Central Crime Station (CCS) sleuths today.
The CCS had received a complaint from APSHC Managing Director R Subrahmanyam on July 7 in which he stated that some unknown persons had diverted a portion of funds meant for Indiramma Housing scheme.
The accused are — K Ram Mohan (30) and P Rajasekhar Reddy, both working on a contract basis. Both had been handling the database of funds meant for the scheme. The police also arrested two of their family members.
Disclosing details at a press conference today, Additional Commissioner (Crimes) K Narasimha Reddy said that during the course of investigation, the sleuths found that the money which was supposed to be delivered in the accounts of the divisional engineers of a few districts, had been diverted to different account numbers.
“The data sent to the State Bank of India, about the account numbers and the amount to be credited was manipulated.
Nearly six account numbers belonging to 10 different districts were replaced by the accused with new account numbers belonging to them,’’ Narasimha Reddy said.
Both the accused were working as data entry operators on out-sourcing basis and they are well-versed with net banking. The accused opened accounts at SBI branches in Hydernagar, Kukatpally, RC Puram and Gudivada and transferred the amount from SBI Saifabad branch where the APSHC has a account.
The audit manager of APSHC, A Suresh Babu said the fraud had been executed between April 2 and July 2.
“We did not get a doubt as our database showed that the amount was transferred to the respective districts. But after some time the officials concerned told us that the amount was not delivered,’’ he said.
“The accused transferred the amount after carrying out 17 bank transactions,’’ the Additional Commissioner said adding that this amount was supposed to reach Warangal, Chittoor, Anantapur, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Prakasam and Kurnool.
The sleuths recovered Rs 69 lakh in cash, lands and flats worth Rs 84 lakh, automobiles worth Rs 4 lakh, laptops and cell phones worth Rs 1.75 lakh besides household articles worth Rs 1 lakh, fixed deposits worth Rs 2.4 lakh, gold and jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh. The bank accounts of the accused which contains Rs 54 lakh, have been frozen.
Police have also arrested K Suryanarayana, father of Ram Mohan and K Srinivas, brother of Ram Mohan for involving in the purchases of different properties in their name using the amount.
