Bahrain, February 02: Two elderly Bahraini protesters have been killed after inhaling poisonous tear gas fired by regime forces during attacks on protesters in the village of Ma’ameer and the Naim neighborhood in the capital Manama, Press TV reports.
On Wednesday, an elderly Bahraini man died after the Saudi-backed regime forces attacked his home in Ma’ameer, about 15 kilometers (9.5 miles) south of Manama, with tear gas.
The other victim was an elderly woman who also died after inhaling toxic tear gas in a similar attack by regime forces in Naim.
Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds more arrested or fired from their jobs since the beginning of the popular uprising in Bahrain in February 2011.
On January 26, the Amnesty International called on Bahraini authorities to “investigate and account for the reports of more than a dozen deaths following tear gas use.”
Amnesty also called on the US government to “suspend transfers of tear gas and other riot control equipment to the Bahraini authorities.”
On Sunday, Bahraini protesters chanted “Down with (King) Hamad” during demonstrations held in several towns and villages across the country.
Demonstrators say they are determined to continue their anti-regime protests despite the violent crackdown by security forces.
