Two districts of Telangana receive solar energy awards

Delhi:   Telangana has received three awards on Tuesday for effectively implementing the Jawaharlal Nehru Solar Mission during the year 2014-15.

Telangana received the award in the States category occupying the second position in the country, Ranga Reddy and Medak in the district’s category.

On behalf of the State government, the awards were received by Special Chief Secretary Ajay Misra, Managing Director of Telangana State New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation.

The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission was launched on the 11th January 2010 by the Prime Minister. The Mission has set the ambitious target of deploying 20,000 MW of grid-connected solar power by 2022 is aimed at reducing the cost of solar power generation in the country.

The State has set up 676 solar energy panels in Ranga Reddy district and 355 in Medak district under the mission. Telangana is promoting solar energy in the State by giving subsidy to solar power producers. It has already achieved the capacity of about 1,000 MW solar energy and was aiming for adding another 3,000 MW this year.

Mr. Misra said. “A total of 2,051 captive solar plants were working in Telangana with a total generation capacity of 5.5 MW and also stated that solar plants with a capacity of 992 MW were synchronized with the grid”.

Sudhakar Rao the Non-Conventional Energy Sources Development Corporation managing director congratulated the district collector and said that the State, under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, had been producing record level solar power in the State.
