Two die razing old college building

New delhi, February 11: Two labourers were crushed to death while they were dismantling a dilapidated building of Gujjranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology in Civil Lines on Wednesday.

According to sources, “The accident took place around 10.30 am when the two labourers were dismantling the two-storey dilapidated building of the college and the slab of a pillar fell on them killing them on the spot.”

The deceased have been identified as Ramkaran (32) and Parveen (30). The police have registered a case of accidental death under Section 304-A of the IPC.

Meanwhile, all the efforts to contact the contractor concerned proved futile. However, Prithipal Singh Kapoor, President of the college managing committee, said, “The college management will do whatever is possible.”

Sources revealed that it was about a year ago a structure engineer had advised the college managing committee to raze the 50-year-old building as it was not safe.
