Two die at Jayalalithaa’s rally due to heat

Salem: Two people lost their lives due to the scorching heat at an election rally here addressed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday.

With this, the death toll at the AIADMK general secretary’s election meetings has touched four. On April 11, two people lost their lives at a rally addressed by Jayalalithaa.

While Jayalalithaa began her speech around 4 p.m. at the rally here, around 340 km from state capital Chennai, two people became unwell and were taken to a government hospital where they were declared dead.

According to police, they were identified as S. Pachiannan and M. Periyasamy.

A large section of the crowd were either brought to the rally ground in trucks and buses or had come on their own from nearby areas.
