Two dead, 1 injured in separate road accidents

Chandigarh, February 05: A Pedestrian and a cyclist died in separate road accidents in Chandigarh during the last 24 hours.

Jaswant Kaur, a resident of PGI campus, was taking a walk with her husband Avtar Chand at the rehri market in Sector 12 on Wednesday night, when a vehicle hit her.

The seriously injured woman was taken to the nearby PGI where she died on Thursday, the police said. The driver of the vehicle managed to flee from the spot.

The police have registered a case against the driver under Sections 279, 337 and 304 A of the Indian Penal Code.

It was learnt that the vehicle was rashly driven when it hit the woman and the road was also poorly lit.

In another incident, cyclist Harnek Singh, a resident of Sector 56, died after being hit by a Punjab Roadways bus.

The police said Harnek was riding a bicycle near the Matour Chowk around 11 am on Wednesday, when he was crushed by the bus. The man was fatally wounded and rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

A case has been registered against the driver of the bus, Bhog Singh, for rash driving and causing death due to negligence. In another incident, a motorcyclist was hit by a car near the Sector-17 bus stand around 7.45 pm on Wednesday.

Jaswant Singh, a resident of Sector 30A, was injured in the accident and admitted to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16.
