Colombo : The Sri Lankan Police have arrested two people from along with a local for possession of live native insects and plants.
The foreigners were travelling on the Southern Expressway from Matara when the police arrested them on the Outer Circular Highway in Kaduwela on Saturday night, reports Lanka page.
The suspects were in the possession of five caterpillar cocoons and several herbal plants indigenous to Sri Lanka when they were arrested by police officers together with wildlife officers in Kaduwela.
The officers also found several chemical compounds in the vehicle. The suspects are to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrates Court today.
Under the Flora and Fauna Protection Act of Sri Lanka, a person contravening the ordinance is liable to a maximum fine of 500 rupees or to a maximum jail of six months or both. (ANI)
