Two cyber cheats held in Delhi & brought to city

City Cyber Crime Police have apprehended two offenders — Ashish Rathore and Deepak Kumar Gupta of New Delhi.

Police said Ashish Rathore and Pandat, Sonu and Amit of Delhi (absconding) used to randomly make calls to the victims impersonating as bank officials with fictitious names on the pretext of giving reward points and obtain their credit/debit card details and do online shopping fraudulently or upload the fake online wallets created by them and cheat the victims. The offenders then sell the fake wallet IDs to the mobile recharge shop of Deepak Kumar Gupta on 10 to 12% commission and encash the cheating amount.

Police recovered net cash Rs 11,200, four mobile phones, ATM card from the possession of the accused. Due to timely action by police, an amount of Rs.63,090 out of Rs78,000 has been reverted by the e-commerce wallet Flipkart to the account of the victim.

 

Police said on April 1 this year, they received a complaint from one K. Keerthi of Saidabad stating that she holds a credit card of Ratnakar Bank (RBL) and she was cheated by unknown tele-caller called from cell No.7838788923 claiming himself to be Kabir from RBL credit card division and falsely stated that she will gain some reward points and lured her to divulge the details of her credit card. After that she received online shopping transactions SMSes on her mobile which were not done by her. She came to know that she has been fraudulently cheated by fraudsters and called up customer care, who informed her that the four transactions were done at Flipkart, Suvidhaa and One97 communication are fraud and she was cheated to the tune of Rs78,088 by the conmen.

 

The police registered a case in Cr.No.97/2016, U/Sec. 66 (C ) (D) I.T.A Act 2008 and Sec.419, 420 IPC  and took up investigation which revealed that the fraudsters are from New Delhi. A police team proceeded to New Delhi, traced two offenders and arrested them and brought to city on transit warrant.
