New Delhi, June 03: Two science courses, BSc mathematical science and BSc computer science, are most sought after in Delhi University ( DU) this time round.
The university authorities said they had received many enquiries for the courses. And this, they said, was because both the courses provide a good option to the students from all the three streams — arts, commerce and science — to enter into the science stream.
“ Students from non- science streams are quite interested in the two courses as they see them as good career options. If a student doesn’t want to carry on with the commerce or arts streams can also go for these courses,” said Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, deputy dean, office of the dean students’ welfare at DU. “ It is imperative for the applicants to have studied maths and English at the intermediate level. If a student has scored well in the two subjects in Class XII, he/ she can opt for the science courses,” said Tuteja.
With students flooding the DU helpline numbers with queries on career options in information technology, BSc computer science seems to have emerged as the best option.
“ Information technology provides lucrative jobs. Final- year students get selected through campus placements in companies such as Satyam, Dell and Tech Mahindra,” said Dr A. Lakshmi Devi, principal of Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Science for Women.
The course is being taught at Acharya Narendra Dev College, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, College of Vocational Studies, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Shaheed Rajguru College, among others.
Those who want to pursue the computers stream, but cannot make it through BSc computer science, can opt for BSc ( general) mathematical sciences.
They can later go for master of computer applications.
For BSc mathematical science, students can apply in Maharaja Agrasen College and PGDAV College.
