Two cops suspended as man dies during raid

New Delhi, April 27: Two policemen were suspended after a man died of cardiac arrest following alleged harassment during a police raid at his Safdarganj area residence in Barabanki district on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as one Mata Prasad (60).

Barabanki SP said the team, led by Sub-Inspector

(S-I) Bharat Bhuval raided the house and seized six gunny bags containing poppy skin.

Prasad’s son, Raj Maurya said his father had a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) licence to grow opium and that they were authorised to sell poppy peelings. The NCB, however, held selling of poppy skin as illegal, said the SP.

Prasad suffered a cardiac arrest and died. His son alleged that Constable Dhirendra Sharma had slapped Prasad while quizzing him, causing his death. The S-I and the constable have been suspended and a probe has been ordered into the matter,
