Mumbai, February 07: Close on the heels of the Nooriya Haveliwala case, comes news of Amandeep Singh Virk, a 25-year-old businessman who knocked down two constables near Lokhandwala Garden at Andheri (W) in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
The constables, Kamraj Kamble and Sunil Ubale, were patrolling on a motorbike when Virk’s Maruti Swift knocked them down. Police say Virk was under the influence of alcohol, something that will be confirmed once his blood results come in.
Kamble sustained injuries on his head and hands, while Ubale suffered them on his chest and abdomen. Both were admitted to Barhmakumari Hospital for treatment, said senior police inspector DK Rupawate of Oshiwara police station and added that Virk had been arrested and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days by the Andheri metropolitan court.
The accident took place at around 3.15 am. Virk, a resident of Lokhandwala Complex, was on his way home with his wife, when he lost control of his car and knocked down the two constables.
“We suspect Virk was driving under the influence of alcohol. His blood samples have been sent to Cooper Hospital for testing and we are awaiting the results before taking further action,” said Rupawate.
