Two cops among three killed in Karachi target killings

Karachi, April 18: Three people, including two police cops, were shot dead in incidents of target killing in separate parts of the provincial capital on Sunday.

A sub-inspector (SI) was gunned down in New Karachi Police Lane within the limits of New Karachi police station. The incident took place when 40-year-old Zulfiqar Qaimkhani was standing outside his police quarter.

As he was about to enter his house, an armed man reached there and opened fire at him, killing him after few minutes.

The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), where scores of police officers and personnel had also gathered.

Police registered an FIR against unidentified man on the complaint of victim’s brother and initiated probe into the case.

An investigation officer said it was an incident of target killing. “He was not working on a case of a sensitive nature presently and there is a likelihood that the assassin might have felt offended by him in the past that led him to murder him,” he said.

In another incident a head constable (HC) of Sukkhun police station was shot dead on National Highway in the remits of Shah Latif police station.

Ali Bux, 35, was the resident of Hassan Panhwar Goth Bin Qasim Town. Two men arrived on a motorcycle and sprayed him with bullets near Jogi Moor on National Highway as he was heading to Sukkhun police station.

He received two bullets on his head and died on the spot. The culprits, however, managed to escape from the scene. SHO Mulazim Hussain said the victim hailed from Mir Pir (Interior Sindh), adding that it was an incident of target killing.

It is pertinent to mention here that at least five police cops were shot dead in two days but police officials said all of them were not killed due to target killing.

Police sources said Bin Qasim police had been cracking down on terrorists and anti-state elements.

Separately, police found a bullet-riddled body of a man from North Karachi in the limits of Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police station.
