Two of cheating gang arrested by CID

CID Additional Director General of Police T. Krishna Prasad has stated that on April 6 his sleuths arrested Durgamcheruvu Sarojini (A-11) wife of one Stanly David and Marapaka Suman (A-12), both of Nacharam and seized from them one ‘Ford Fiesta’ car in connection with a case of cheating and misappropriation by notorious criminals. The case was registered in CID Police Station, here on June 4 last year.

In a pressnote, the Additional DG has stated that the duo, with active connivance of one Gonuguntla Prasad (A-1), Member of All India Handicrafts Board, Union Ministry of Textiles, resident of Pattabiram in Chennai and 14 others cheated the complainant one Bandari Shankaraiah to the tune Rs 42 lakh on pretext of getting Rs 3 crore foreign Church funds.

The complainant used to visit a Church at Vanasthalipuram, where he got acquainted with Swarnalatha (A-14), who introduced the complainant to Goneguntla Prasad (A1) stating that he is very influential person and gets foreign funds through his societies, i.e. Jeevadhara Society for participatory Rural Development and Asha Jyothi Rural Development Society.

The A-1 and A-12, in connivance with A-14 made believe the complainant and lured him to deposit Rs 42 lakhs and executed a bond and issued post-dated cheques to the tune of Rs 3 crores in favour of Bandari Shankaraiah. They also took him to Delhi on pretext of depositing the amount in the RBI to get foreign funds.
The accused are being produced before the Magistrate concerned. The remaining accused in the case are still absconding, Krishna Prasad added.
