Two businessmen assaulted outside Gurgaon mall

New Delhi, July 15: Two businessmen were attacked by unidentified persons outside the Omaxe Mall, situated on Sohna Road, on Sunday night.

The incident occurred around 10 pm when Vijay Sherawat, a resident of Mahipalpur, and Pradeep Mangla, resident of Badshapur in Gurgaon, went to collect some items from Mangla’s showroom in the mall. Mangla asked his workers to get the items while the two waited in his car.

According to Sherawat, a drunk security guard approached their car and demanded for Rs 100 as parking charges from Mangla. “Since it was late and the guard was inebriated, I thought it best to give him the money. However, when he saw cash in my wallet, he snatched it and tried to flee.

As I got down from the car to catch him, four to five men grabbed me and started hitting me. Initially, I thought there was some misunderstanding but before I could explain anything, they pulled out iron rods and beat me up till I became unconscious,” Sherawat said.

Mangla, who tried to save his friend, was also severely injured. “The attackers left us, possibly thinking that we were dead since we had blood all over us,” Mangla said.

Passers-by took the businessmen to Govind Hospital in Badshapur, where they were administered first-aid and referred to Paras Hospital. “The patients were admitted in the ICU for the night and have been shifted to a private ward after scans and the necessary tests,” Dr Rashim Kataria, consultant neurosurgeon at Paras Hospital, said. The doctor also confirmed no alcohol was found in the patients’ blood when they were brought in.

Vinod, Sherawat’s younger brother, a television actor, said the Gurgaon police have not registered an FIR. “We have filed a written complaint with the police but they have not filed an FIR yet.

They say a guard has also received injuries and are waiting for the medical report,” Vinod said. Officers at the Sadar police station said they were awaiting X-Ray reports before they could register a case.

“It is not just the businessmen who sustained injuries. They had gone to eat in the mall and had an argument with the security guard. They abused him and allegedly beat him up. Uday Veer, the guard, has been admitted at Sai Hospital here and has received eight stitches,” a police officer said.
