Two booked for outraging modesty of woman

Panaji: Goa police today booked case of outraging the modesty of a woman at Old Goa highway against two unknown accused even as they suspect that their own constables could be involved in the offence.

“We have registered case under section 354 of Indian penal code (outraging modesty) against two unknown persons.

The woman who was victimised in the incident has not filed the complaint, but the offence was registered based on a third person’s complaint,” Old Goa Police Inspector Krishna Sinari told PTI today.

Incidentally, police are suspecting involvement of two constables who were on duty on Police Control Room vehicle on the Old Goa highway.

Superintendent of Police (Security) Bosco George said that two constables were asked to report to the control room station in Panaji, moving them away from the PCR van.

He said he has already asked the police inspector to register an FIR against the constables, after a proper inquiry into the incident.

As per the complaint, the incident happened sometime earlier this month when a man and his female friend were sitting in the car alongside the highway when police control room jeep asked them to get down from the vehicle.

Both the constables sexually abused the woman and later took her telephone number and continued harassing her.

A senior police officer said the victim was afraid to lodge a police complaint against the constables, but her another friend, whom she opened up to, has given it (complaint) to the police station.
