New Delhi: In a boost to the Congress, two prominent BJP leaders from Rajasthan — former Union Minister Subhash Maharia and former MP Hari Singh today joined the party.
The two Jat leaders said they were “disillusioned” over the working of the Vasundhara Raje government in the state and Narendra Modi dispensation at the Centre.
At the AICC headquarters, they were welcomed to the party fold by senior party leaders including party’s chief spokesman Randeep Surjewala, Rajasthan PCC Chief Sachin Pilot and state CLP leader Rameshwar Dudi.
Pilot said that the entry of the two leaders would strengthen the Congress and was indicative of the way political winds are blowing in the state.
The PCC chief insisted that Congress is on a comeback trail in Rajasthan was clear from the results of the panchayat polls which showed that there is not much difference in the poll percentage of the ruling BJP and Congress.
This, he said, was significant in view of the fact that BJP had won all the 25 seats in the Lok Sabha polls in May 2014 and had secured 163 out of a total of 200 seats in the last Assembly polls held nearly three years back.
