Two auto-lifters arrested

Varanasi, April 22: With the arrest of two persons here today, police busted an interstate gang of auto-lifters allegedly involved in the stealing of over 300 four wheelers. The two auto lifters, Mohd Sahil Khan and Sheru alias Hamid, were arrested from Kandawa area after a brief exchange of fire, SP (City) Vijay Bhushan said.

No one was hurt in the firing but one member of the gang managed to escape from the spot, he said. A country-made pistol and cartridges were seized from them.

Sahil, a native of Allahabad, and Hamid were part of an interstate gang, which has been operating in UP, Bihar and Jharkhand for the last ten years, Bhushan said. He said the gang had lifted over 300 four wheelers and used to sell them in Bihar and Nepal.
