Two attempted suicide at KT Rama Rao’s rally

Sircilla: In the caretaker minister K.T. Rama Rao’s meeting in Thangellapalli near in Sircilla on Friday, two victims of the Nerella incident tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on themselves and setting themselves on fire.

The entire controversy began after a sand lorry hit and killed B Bhudaiah of Nerella village on July 2. This death had sparked massive anger, as this was the fourth such death in the village villages.

After the incident, police arrested eight Dalits from Nerella of Rajanna-Siricilla district for allegedly torching a sand-laden truck. The victims were then allegedly subjected to third-degree torture and also claimed to be verbally abused with casteist slurs.

In a rally held on Friday, Barthu Banaiah and Kola Harish tried to commit suicide alleging that even after two years the state government had not done justice to them. They said the police had tortured them for raising their voice against the sand mafia.

Now out the six Nerella victims, four have joined the TRS and are campaigning for Mr KT Rama Rao. Earlier, all six of them had launched a relay hunger strike at Nerella demanding justice.
