Mandore (Rajasthan) : The Jodhpur Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two people in connection with the stabbing of one Dalpat Singh at an ATM of the State Bank of Bikaner at Nau Mill here on June 1.
The police, however, refused to disclose the identified of the main accused, saying he is a minor (17 years, 10 months and 15 days old), while his accomplice has been identified as Naveen Parihar (25), both residents of Nayapura here.
Station House Officer (SHO) of the Mandore Police Station, Raghubir Singh, told ANI that the accused were produced before a local court, which sent Parihar in judicial custody, while the minor was sent to a Bal Samprekshan Grih.
“I stabbed him because I was in desperate need of money,” Parihar told ANI.
Divulging details of the case, the SHO said, “Around 6 p.m. on June 1, the victim was withdrawing cash from an ATM of State Bank of Bikaner at Nau Mill, Mandore, when the minor accused stood at the entry of the ATM booth, while keeping an eye on the surrounding areas. And when Dalpat was about to finish his transaction, the accused entered the booth and stood behind him and subsequently stabbed him into his abdomen.”
“Dalpat, who was caught by surprise, tried to save himself from further stabbing and also raised alarms, following which the assailant ran away. Dalpat gave him a chase, but he fled the scene with an accomplice, who was waiting on a motorcycle around 50 metres from the ATM,” the SHO added.
He said Dalpat (25), who is an employee with an ice cream factory, was rushed to a hospital where he was operated upon on the same night that save his life. The victim is recovering at the hospital, he added.
Following the attack, the police had launched an investigation and questioned locals and bank staff, said the SHO, adding that they also examined the CCTV footage which helped them hunt down the culprits.
“The minor and Naveen Parihar came to the ATM on a motorcycle with a motive of robbery. They waited until they found lone Dalpat entering the ATM. The minor accused followed Dalpat to the ATM, stabbed him, but could not rob him and fled the ATM,” said the SHO.
In the attack, Dalpat received 3-4 wounds, including a serious abdomen injury, he added.
The SHO said a case has been registered against the accused at the Mandore Police Station under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 397 (robbery, or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 120 B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
