Two arrested for murdering truck driver in Delhi

New Delhi, July 09: Two young men, including a butcher, were arrested in the national capital today for allegedly robbing a truck driver from Punjab of Rs 700 after murdering him, police said. The butcher, Raju Murgewala (24) and his friend Pankaj (20) were caught from near Anand Parbat for their alleged involvement in the killing of Balvinder Singh, a resident of Patlia, on June 23.

Singh”s body was found near Panchsheel Bodh Temple in Anand Parbat. Initially, he could not be identified but Singh”s helper Salvinder identified the body.

According to police, Singh was coming from Patiala in his truck and got down to answer nature”s call while Salvinder slept inside the truck. At that time, Murgewala and his friends, who had all consumed liquour, were walking through Nehru Nagar.

On noticing the truck driver they threatened him at knife point and robbed him of cash Rs 700 and a wrist watch, police said. However, when they tried to snatch his mobile phone, Singh resisted and to Murgewala stabbed him, killing him on the spot.

Police arrested Murgewala and Pankaj today while they are still on the lookout for two more persons.
