Kolkata: Two persons were today arrested for their alleged links to a fake currency racket from Thakupukur in the southern part of the city, police said.
One machine for printing fake currency notes was also seized.
The two were captured by locals of Thakupukur’s Bakrahat area this morning when they had gone to a shop to make some purchases, police said.
“Among the notes they produced to pay the shopkeeper, 19 notes of Rs 100 denomination were found to be fake. Locals then handed them over to us,” an officer of Thakurpukur Police Station said.
Upon questioning, police recovered a machine to print fake currency notes from a house in the Central part of the city.
“We are further questioning the two persons to check whether they belong to a gang or not. An investigation has been initiated into this,” a senior officer of Kolkata Police headquarters said.
