Two arrested for kidnapping 4-year-old girl

New Delhi: Two men have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a four-year-old girl from northeast Delhi’s New Usmanpur, the police said today.

On October 24, a man informed the police that his daughter had gone to a shop in the morning, but had not come back home, they said.

He claimed that he had searched the area, but could not trace her. The man suspected that she had been kidnapped, the police said.

During investigation, a five-year-old child told the police that one Shahdab (26), who is specially-abled, had taken the girl on the pretext of buying her sweets, they said.

The child went along with Shahdab as her family knew him. He was interrogated and he revealed that he had sold the girl to one Nageen (23) in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad, A K Singla, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), said.

Shahdab said that Nageen had told him that he would be paid later. They were acquainted with each other for the last 15 years, the officer said.

A police team along with the accused visited Firozabad and rescued the girl yesterday. Nageen has also been arrested, he said.

Shahdab told the police that he wanted to teach the victim’s father a lesson as he had insulted him around a week back, the DCP said.

The accused used to visit the girl’s house in her father’s absence.

The father suspected that Shahdab was having an affair with his wife and had warned him to stay away from his house, said another official privy to the probe.

Shahdab wanted revenge for the insult and had planned the kidnapping, the official said.
