Hyderabad: Police on Wednesday arrested two persons from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly hacking the website and email accounts of the government-run ‘Mee Seva’ centre and siphoning off over Rs 13 lakh.
The cyber crime police attached to the Central Crime Station, a wing of Hyderabad police, arrested Mohd Khasim Khan and Himanshu Shekhar Singh, both natives of UP.
Khan and Singh hacked the Mee Seva website of the Telangana government and accessed confidential information, based on which they opened a current bank account in the name of ‘Sai Enterprises’ before siphoning off money, police said in a release.
“When they got a sniff of police probe, Khasim deposited Rs 13.35 lakh back. After the arrest, Rs 35,000 in cash and two mobile phones were seized and efforts are on to apprehend some other accused,” it said.
Mee-Seva (at your service) centres offer the facility to people to obtain caste certificate, date of birth certificate, etc.
