Two AP govt employees jailed in graft cases

Hyderabad, July 12: Two State government employees including a forest range officer were convicted and sent to jail by a local court here in separate corruption cases in Andhra Pradesh.

The special judge for Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cases, Hyderabad, has convicted M Ramakrishna Rao, a former forest range officer, and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years.Rao, who worked in Nalgonda district, was trapped by ACB when he had accepted a bribe of Rs two lakh from the complainant in 2007.

The accused officer had demanded the bribe from an industrialist for allowing vehicles to pass through reserve forest area to transport the rawmaterial from mine lease land to the factory, ACB official said here today.

In another case, the special judge found guilty of G Venkateswarlu an Additional Assistant Engineer of a state-owned power distribution corporation, who was trapped while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 three years ago for doing an official favour.The judge sentenced him to undergo two years imprisonment.
