Following the arrest of a local executive for operating a pro-ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) twitter account, the Bangalore police on Monday stated that the Indian offices of the social networking site have begun the process of information sharing with them.
“Twitter India has responded [to our notice] and the process of sharing information is already on. Meanwhile, the investigation regarding the accused and his other connections is underway. We are also investigating all the activity by the @ShamiWitness account, including retweets, direct messages and so on,” Bangalore police joint commissioner Hemant Nimbalkar told the media.
“As of now, we are studying the followers and that investigation will be made in due course and it will throw light on what exactly is the account in question,” he added.
Earlier this week, the Bangalore Police had arrested Mehdi Masroor Biswas for allegedly operating a pro- ISIS Twitter account.
An investigation by Britain’s Channel 4 News had stated that the @ShamiWitness account, which reportedly had a massive 17,700 followers, was being run by an executive based in Bangalore.
The report also claimed that the executive was ready to join the Islamic State himself if his family had not been dependant on him.
As per reports, the social networking account had also tweeted US aid worker Peter Kassig’s execution and other videos, moments after they first appeared on the internet. (ANI)
