Twenty20 not responsible for retirements: Yuvraj Singh

New Delhi, August 02: The stylish left-handed batsman was replying to a question on whether or not the shortest version of the game had anything to do with the retirement announcements of England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff and Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.

“I think it is not fair to say they are retiring because they want to play T20 at the expense of Test cricket,” Yuvraj said at a function organised by Reebok to introduce its new range of cricket shoes.

“Flintoff has been playing for a long time. He had some injuries and finally decided to give up Test cricket after the Ashes series, which was his decision. We can’t be commenting on why he took the decision,” said Yuvraj, who is synonymous with the T20 format since he blasted six sixes off an over from England pace bowler Stuart Broad at the ICC Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa two years ago.
Yuvraj also felt too much was being made of Muralitharan’s similar announcement to retire from Test cricket next year.

“Murali is a legend of the game and to have played for so long is an achievement in itself. He can’t keep going on and on,” said Yuvraj.
