Twelve Killed, 20 Injured as RTC busbus fell into a valley: Anantapu

Twelve people were killed when a bus fell in into a gorge in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district today. Most of them were students. The driver of the APSRTC bus with registration number AP28Z 1053 lost control over the wheel while trying to avoid hitting an auto rickshaw.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 AM when the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus was going to Penukonda from Madakasira in the district where it fell into a valley, 20 feet below, Anantapur District Superintendent of Police Rajsekhar Babu said.

“As per the information available, majority of the victims are engineering students, who were proceeding to their college. At least eight people were killed in the mishap. Police personnel are carrying out rescue operation,” told police.

The ambulance reached the spot in 20 minutes and the injured were taken to different hospitals in Hindupur, Anantapur and Bangalore.

According to the Joint Collector S Satyanarayan , some road work was going on near the spot where accident took place.
