Mumbai, February 17: A television producer and a lawyer in Oshiwara were booked for allegedly raping a 25-year-old model-actress after promising to get her work and a free house.
The police have identified the producer as Umesh Reshamwala (61), and the lawyer as Alim Sheikh (50). Oshiwara police booked them.
A few weeks ago, Reshamwala had approached the police alleging that the model had been blackmailing him with a CD said to contain sexually explicit content featuring him.
The model, who is from Kanpur, claimed she had approached Reshamwala for work in television six months ago. The producer allegedly assured her of roles and also promised to buy her a flat.
Reshamwala, and his lawyer-social worker friend Sheikh, then sexually assaulted her six months ago. The victim claimed that when she got neither any work nor the promised flat, she confronted Reshamwala, who then threatened to circulate a CD, which showed her in a compromising position.
“The victim was also allegedly blackmailed and warned against reporting the matter to us,” said Additional Commissioner of Police, Amitabh Gupta. The model filed a complaint with Oshiwara police on Monday evening, after which both were arrested. Lawyer Pradeep Shetty, who is representing the accused said Police Sub-Inspector A Khade of Oshiwara police station, along with the model, are trying to extort money from Reshamwala.
Gupta denied the allegation that any police officer had tried to extort money from the accused: “It is not at all true, but we will still investigate.” both the accused were produced in the Andheri metropolitan court, which sent them to police custody until Friday.
