Mumbai, October 04: During a talk show organised by a news channel at Shahid Vijay Salaskar garden at Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR), Congress and Shiv Sena party workers engaged in slogan shouting and had a subsequent fight. However, the matter was brought under control by the leaders and the police.
Assembly Elections 2009Shiv Sena candidate from Jogeshwari (E) Ravindra Waikar and his opponent Bhai Jagtap of Congress were invited to participate in a live debate organised by a news channel at around 3.30pm on Saturday. The 15-minute live shoot went on smoothly, and when everyone was leaving the venue, around 50 party workers from Shiv Sena and Congress started shouting slogans. Feeling offended by each other, the workers soon locked horns and started assaulting each other as well. Five persons received minor injuries in the clash.
However, leaders immediately intervened and the matter was reported to the MIDC police station. On being informed, a team from the MIDC police station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Both parties have lodged complaints against each other at the MIDC police station. “We have taken complaints from both the parties and the offence has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC,” said Pradip Suryavanshi, senior police inspector, MIDC police station.
