TRS MP Kavitha today urged the Centre to provide remunerative price to commercial crop Turmeric and boost its exports.
Participating in a workshop on Turmeric conducted by Spices Board, the MP from Telangana State has sought the Centre to take immediate steps to offer better price to the international commodity which has very good demand. The State government has been seeking MSP to this product, which has medicinal and health benefits, she said. She reiterated that the Centre should set up a Spices Board in Nizamabad. The spices board has been urging for the MSP to turmeric to help the farmers and the latter ignoring to set up a turmeric board for the past three decades she said.
The exports of Turmeric crop have been reduced drastically to 3 lakh tons now from 7 lakh tons in 1990. The workshop will sure come up with solution and the government will follow it to help the turmeric farmers, Kavitha affirmed. Sonalika type of Turmeric crop has very good demand in the market she said adding that food processing units for other crops will be set up to help the farmers in Telangana. These units on being operational will prove handy for the farmers in a big way, she hoped. (NSS)
